Some facts about Tarbela Dam

Tarbela Dam is an earth-filled dam, situated on Indus river in Haripur & some area of Swabi Khyber Pakhtunkhawa Province operated by Water & Power Development Authority. The primary objective of the dam was to supply water for irrigation by storing flows during the monsoon period.

Construction of Tarbela Dam was carried out in three stages to meet the diversion requirements of the river. Construction was undertaken by the Italian firm Salini Impregilo.. It’s construction begun in 1968 and completed in 1976 after 8 years. It was started operated in 1978, two years after it’s completion.
