UMEED Foundation incorporated as a non-Profit community based organization, working for disadvantaged populations with a focus on women empowerment through different developmental strategies to improve their social status throughout Punjab Province and Khyber Pukhtun Khawah, Pakistan.
In the wake of growing humanitarian needs for the ‘special people’, a group of like-minded people established ‘Disabled Peoples Movements’ in September, 2008 under Societies Registration Act 1860. These coordinated efforts rendered great services for the welfare of handicapped people in Rawalpindi since its establishment. Keeping in view the large public support and future potential options the nomenclature of the organization changed to Unity and Motivation for Education, Empowerment and Development (UMEED), in 2011.
Therefore, during 2011, the Board of Director decided to broaden the scope of organization through extending support to other social sectors like education, Advocacy, Livelihood, Environment, emergency response, Peace Building & Conflict Resolution.
UMEED Foundation aspires to improve the living conditions of the poor and marginalized by adopting strategies through community initiative, participation and sensitization. Founded in September 2008, the organization has worked among marginalized communities in the interior unreached pockets of Punjab through self-help groups taken as the base for all interventions and livelihood activities enabling them to contribute towards mainstream development process. Since establishment, Foundation has been working on different social development issues which include Human Rights, Women Empowerment, Gender Mainstreaming, Youth Development, Primary Health Care, and Livelihood
UMEED Foundation also advocates for gender equality and empowerment as integral to mitigating and adapting to climate change and achieving sustainable, environmentally sound development.
