The Kohat University of Science and Technology (KUST) was established in 2001. It is a public university located at Kohat District, Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Pakistan. The idea of KUST was first conceived by the on will-meaning leading personality Governor of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, Lt. Gen. Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah(late), with clear vision and strong will to do something great for the southern districts of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa.
The KUST is located near Village Jerma, main Indus Highway on Bannu Road, about 9km from Kohat City towards East. The University campus is surrounded by a regional facility of Agricultural Research System, Cadet College Kohat, Army Public College, Govt. Commerce College Kohat, F.G College for Women Kohat etc. In other words the university campus/city is like an academic town producing education right from the nursery to the highest level in almost all-important disciplines. It is primarily a research, teaching, affiliating, and examining body involved in promotion of not only science and technology but other branches of learning as well. The University is open to all classes and creeds with the sole objective to carry people from darkness to light.
It was founded with four institutes

- Institute of Management Sciences
- Institute of Education
- Research and Department of Microbiology
These offered two-year and four-year Bachelor of Science (B.Sc) degrees and two-year Master degrees fields, in 2004. Later on the university was expanded by establishing departments in Physics, Chemistry, Botany, Zoology, and Microbiology. These departments offer BS (Hons), M. Sc., M. Phil. and Ph.D. degree programs.
