Tomb Of Sultan Ibrahim

The tomb of Sultan Ibrahim Khan lies in the middle of an enclosure type of structure in Makli graveyard in Thatta district. The building itself is in beautiful octagonal shape  inscription on monument, Sultan Ibrahim S/O Mirza Muhammad Essa Khan Tarkhan dated 966 A.H /1559 A.D while the tomb was built in the time of Mirza Baqi Baig Tarkhan in between 1572 to 1584 A.D. The tomb stands out in its own type as it is the only enclosure which accommodates a real building while in all other enclosures tombs of earlier period there are found only graves inside the tomb enclosures. The courtyard of the tomb is in rectangular shape and main structure set in the middle of the courtyard. The features of tomb recommends that its opening bore a high arch contained within a rectangular stone frame, though the brick work around shows the remains of decoration. Inside the enclosure with the western wall have remains of a mosque measuring 10m x 3.8m and little northward lies the tomb of Amir Muhammad Sultan. The tomb of Sultan Ibrahim has the stone foundation while super structure is raised in burnt bricks with variation in octagonal shaped walls measuring 7.4 m while corner sides 4.6m in each length. The chamber is octagonal shape up to parapet level from where rises an onion shaped dome standing on a high circular drum which had lotus finial at summit.

The northwestern side of the octagonal structure staircases has been provided to ascend to the roof while all around the structure have deep arched alcoves. Provision has been made for doorway on south side, fixed in stone frame with a window on top. The other alcoves are closed with stone screens set in stone frames. The space between arched windows and doors has a frieze of tiles with verses from Holy Quran in white over blue background. The interior of the tomb containing four graves presents a square measuring 6.5m. The dome from inside have been decorated with blue tiles.
