The National Museum of Pakistan is located in Karachi, Sindh, Pakistan. It was established in 1951 in historical building of Frere Hall and continued to be there till July, 1969. Meanwhile the Government realizing the importance of the National Institution favored the construction a separate building at Burns Garden.
The Museum was shifted to the present premises (located in Burns Garden) and the new building’s inauguration ceremony was performed by the then President of Pakistan on 21st February, 1970.
The National Museum of Pakistan holds many historical displays and represents a complete vista of Pakistan’s Cultural Heritage from Stone Age down to the birth of Pakistan. There are total 11 galleries.
Pakistan’s heritage is also being displayed in these galleries like Gandhara Civilization, Indus Civilization, Sculptures of Civilization, Islamic Culture of Art. The most unique gallery is the Quran gallery. This is totally a new concept in the niche of museums.
The Quran Gallery contains more than 300 copies of the Quran.
It also displays almost 52 manuscripts that are very rare.
The museum has 58,000 coins, more or less 70,000 books and 11 balconies with galleries and all galleries are set up in chronological.
The most fascinating gallery to tourists is the ethnological gallery as it has giant unique statues of Buddha, Hindu Statue of Saraswati, Vishnu, Lakshmi, Durga, Parwati. Some parts of galleries also show the preserved belongings of famous leaders and also some old styled shoes and clothing used at ancient times by the people.
