Marghazar (Islamabad) Zoo

Islamabad zoo is an 82 acre, vast zoo located in the heart of Pakistan-Islamabad. This zoo was previously known as the Marghazar zoo.The zoo started in 1978 as a refuge to leopards, chitals and indian gazelles found in the region.It soon gained popularity and became a part of the Japanese garden. An aviary was later constructed.Then in 2008, Administration of Capital Development Authority Pakistan upgraded the zoo for a wildlife sanctuary.The animals in the zoo contain the black Kite, black swan, budgerigar, common pheasant, green peafowl, Indian peafowl, mute swan, ostrich, rock pigeon, steppe eagle, Asiatic lion, African lion, Asian elephant, Chinkara, leopard, Nilgal, Plains Zebra, Alexandarine parakeet, Urial and Vervet monkey. It had dummies of giant dinosaurs, which became the favorite thing of kids and visitors.
