The Makra (english: Spider) due to its shape in snow, is a scenic peak in the Mansehra District in Hazara Region of the Himalaya, in northern area of Pakistan. The Makra Peak is about 3,885 metres high.
Although it is difficult to climb due to bad weather, especially winter. In spite of its difficulties, the summit offers the good scenery views of Hazara and Azad Kashmir. Fatalities tend to occur in bad weather, especially thick fog is a result of steepness in some sections. The waters from the mountain’s glacier feed the Kunhar River.
How to get there?
The Makra Peak is located on Naran road almost 200 kilometres from Islamabad. From Kiwai, a single 7 km long road runs uphill to Shogran. A tourist resort with numerous hotels; the track continues to climb up to Siri Lake and ends at Paye. From Paye, it takes nine hours to reach the top of the Makra. Hiking on the Makra is difficult due to snow and the gradient of the mountainsides.
