Senate Election Major setback in Islamabad

Senate election is over after tough competition between Yousaf Raza Gilani of PPP and Hafeez Sheikh of PTI. MNAs choose the representative from the federal capital where the PPP candidate Yusuf Raza Gilani is contesting against the ruling party candidate Dr Abdul Hafeez Shaikh. The current strength of the National Assembly is 341 (one seat – NA-75 is vacant) and the ruling party candidate apparently enjoys the support of 180 MNAs.

After secret balloting held on 3 Mar 2021, Pakistan Peoples Party’s (PPP) Yousuf Raza Gillani defeated PTI’s Hafeez Shaikh from Islamabad general seat by securing vote 169. Hafeez Shaikh secure 164 votes. Seven votes were rejected including one vote of Shahryar Afridi PTI.
