Far right Religious party TLP Banned after Violent Protest

Tehreek-e-Labbaik Pakistan (TLP) party was banned by Government of Pakistan. The decision was taken after approval by Federal Cabinet. Countrywide violent protests resulting in the deaths of at least two police officers. The protest by the TLP was started on Wednesday.

Interior Minister Sheikh Rasheed said at a news conference in the capital, Islamabad

Today we have decided to ban TLP, and this file is going to cabinet for the approval from today,

In a later tweet, Rasheed said ban would be issued under Pakistani anti-terrorism legislation.

Rasheed said the TLP sought a resolution

that would mean [diplomats from] European countries … would all have to leave the country.

Arrest of TLP chief

On Monday, however, before April 20 the new deadline , police arrested TLP chief Saad Rizvi, son of party founder Khadim Hussain Rizvi who died naturally on November 19, 2020 shortly after the November protests
