The Aga Khan Hospital for Women and Children, Kharadar was established on 15 April 1924 as the Janbai Maternity Home with the support of His Highness Sir Sultan Muhammad Shah Aga Khan III and the philanthropic efforts of Vazir Bundeh Ali Kassim. The hospital’s legal integration with the Aga Khan University Hospital (AKUH) took place in 2010. The purpose was to create a high quality setup that would enable people from various areas of Karachi to get quality care services. The hospital is in a historic building, located in the densely populated area of old Karachi near the Karachi port, fondly referred to as the Janbai Maternity Home. It is comprised of two campuses across from each other separated by a single road.
1. Janbai Building where the general patient wards, private rooms, operating rooms, diagnostics and pharmacy can be found (inpatients)
2. The Aga Khan Diagnostic Centre where the clinics, laboratory and diagnostics for visiting patients (outpatients) is located.
The Hospital have qualified teams of physicians, technicians, nurses and administrative staff who are well skilled to offer their best services to expecting mothers, to facilitate them in labour and delivery and treat other health problems of women and children. It offers a 24/7 Emergency Service for women and children.
