The Surah was revealed in Mecca, ordered 42 in the Quran. Ash-Shūrā is the 42nd chapter of the Qur’an with 53 verses. Its title derives from the question of “shūrā” referred to in Verse 38. The term appears only once in the Quranic text. It has no pre-Quranic antecedent.
