Skardu Fort or Kharpocho, meaning The king of Forts, is a fort in Skardu in the Gilgit-Baltistan region of northern area of Pakistan. It’s an old fort that gives great views of the valley. Due to rocky physical nature of the land it is very difficult for hiking. The fort is located in the heart of city on a small mountain surrounded by indus river on one side and skardu city on the other. The fort was built by Maqpoon Bugha (1490-1515AD), the great grandfather of Ali Sher Khan Anchan (1560-1625 AD).
Australian mountaineer and film maker Greg Child writes that the fort is “be sited above the junction of the rivers” and have a view of the Rock of Skardu.
