Ramkort Fort Mirpur

Ramkot Fort (Urdu: قلعہ رام کوٹ, romanized: Qila Ram Kot) is an ancient fort situated in Azad Jammu and Kashmir, Pakistan currently beside the Mangla Dam. It was built in 1342 during the reign of the Delhi Sultanate.

Three sides of the hilltop are surrounded by the Jhelum River, which falls into the huge reservoir of Mangla Dam. It was built by a Gakhar named Toglu as recorded by traveler and geologist Frederick Drew wrote in his book.

There are quite a few worth seeing places in the fort including a Hindu temple and a pond and waterfalls into the Mangla dam.

The rooms at the backside are in quite wretched condition, some parts of the fort walls got seriously damaged because of things like earthquakes. There are some guards appointed here who look after the place.

How to get there?

it is accessible by boat, 13 kilometers away from Dina and 79 kilometers by road from Mirpur, Azad Kashmir to Dadyal town. It is also accessible from Gujar Khan, via Jabbar and Notla then using boat. The fort is accessible from Siakh village from Dadyal side and Mangla through boats which take approximately 20 to 30 minutes.
